China: SERI, CIMC ORIC, Hin Lee

The companies Systems Engineering Research Institute (SERI), in Beijing, CIMC Ocean Engineering Design & Research Institute (CIMC ORIC), in Shanghai, and Hin Lee (Zhuhai) Shipyard Co., Ltd., in Guangdong, will use FORAN in the design and production of new projects.

After a complete process of evaluating different CAD systems starting in 2014, SERI decided to implement the FORAN system in the organization. The contract includes licenses of the following FORAN packages: Hull Forms, Hull Structure, Outfitting, Electrical, Virtual Reality and Drafting. SERI is a leading state-owned engineering company under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) dedicating to ship system design and integration, system key equipment development.

For its part, CIMC Ocean Engineering Design & Research Institute (CIMC ORIC) selected FORAN System as their ship and offshore proyects’ 3D Design & Research software. CIMC ORIC will use FORAN System in their marine products’ all design stages including conceptual design, basic design, detail design and production.

Lastly, Hin Lee (Zhuhai) Shipyard Co., Ltd., one of the most modern and versatile shipyard in Southern China, strategically located on the Pearl River at Guangdong Province, also chose FORAN recently. The scope of the contract includes the installation of the FORAN System licenses in modules including Hull Forms, General Arrangement & Naval Architecture, Hull Structure, Automatic Nesting, Machinery & Outfitting, Electrical Design, Build Strategy and Drafting.

Hin Lee (Zhuhai) Shipyard Co., Ltd.is one of the only yards in the world with the ability to produce high quality vessels made of a combination of materials such as steel, fiberglass or aluminum. The shipyard expects that the implementation of FORAN will reduce the costs while improving the product quality.

Croatia: Brodotrogir and XIMAR

The Croatian shipyard Hrvatska Brodogradnja Trogir, also known as BRODOTROGIR, has signed a contract with SENER to implement FORAN as a design and construction 3D CAD system for its marine projects, both in the fields of construction and repair. As a result of this contract, licenses have been installed for all FORAN System packages.

For its part, XIMAR Ltd., a private marine engineering and design company located on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, in the city of Rijeka, has also chosen FORAN. It has installed licenses for Hull Structure, Outfitting and Electrical Design packages. This technical office develops the majority of the current vessels on the market, including offshore supply vessels, general cargo vessels, patrol boats, icebreakers and container ships.

DGMM, in Spain

The Spanish General Management for Merchant Shipping (Dirección General de la Marina Mercante, DGMM) has acquired the FORAN system’s Naval Architecture module as a tool to review the information in the stability books they receive from different shipyards and technical offices for their approval. SENER has installed the software and provided the necessary training for specialist engineers in the DGMM offices.

ADA, in Turkey

The Turkish shipyard ADA, located in Istanbul and specializing in offshore supply vessels and ferries, has reactivated its FORAN System license in order to continue using it as the design and construction 3D CAD system for its marine projects. ADA processes 6,000 tons of steel a year to be used for construction, as well as six tons of steel a day for repair work.
