SENER has taken the challenge of the new European emissions control regulations that promote the use of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as fuel for the propulsion of ships. Taking advantage of the experience of its multidisciplinary professional team, the company has developed its own design of a LNG bunkering vessel that applies to the Marine sector the knowledge acquired throughout more than 40 years of activity in design, construction and operation of regasification plants, as well as in the design of Floating Regasification and Storage Units (FSRU).

The result follows the tendencies for 2030 required by operators and ship-owners, obtaining an optimized design, which is oriented to the operation, security and effectiveness. Special interest is put on the elements necessaries to measure the transference rate and on the study of the security of the facilities (HAZID) and the security of the operation (HAZOP) at the conceptual engineering stage.

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS

It is a Ship To Ship (STS) LNG bunkering vessel, with IMO type C LNG cargo tanks at 4,5 bar and -163 ºC, which reduces to a minimum the steam generated in the tanks Boil Off Generated (BOG), anyway a BOG management system has been incorporated, to process the BOG generated in the transfer process. This storage system allows greater flexibility of operation, reducing the effect of the wave inside the tank, sloshing, thus allowing partial loads.

SENER’s design applies to the marine sector the knowledge of more than 40 years developing LNG projects.

The vessel is designed for navigation, maneuverability and operation in adverse meteorological conditions, including Unrestricted Navigation notation. It uses LNG as fuel, with type C tanks on deck, and includes last generation articulated arms designed for the STS bunkering process, with a high level of automation and control. Likewise, it implements innovating measuring system to obtain the maximum accuracy in the measurement of the transference rate, and complying with the regulations of SIGTTO, OCIMF and IGC, among others.
