Del Plata terminal in Uruguay

Gas Sayago, a company set up by the Uruguayan state-owned companies UTE and Ancap, has awarded the engineering bid to SENER for the development of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal del Plata that will be constructed in the sea, 2,500 m off the coast, opposite Punta Sayago, in the west of Montevideo (Uruguay).

The purpose of the contract is to define the construction project that will allow Gas Sayago to participate in the bid for the construction of the terminal. The project includes the design of the offshore infrastructure that will host the Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRU) and the methane tankers as well as the gas pipeline for connection to the shore.

Given the unique conditions of the location (high winds, currents and soft sea floor), this project presents a challenge as far as the design of the marine engineering works are concerned in order to define the best solution suitable for construction.

SENER has been chosen to manage this contract for its multidisciplinary character, versatility and know-how in LNG and marine engineering projects.
