SENER installs FORAN at Fincantieri Marine Group

FORAN is now operational at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding (FBS), one of the Fincantieri Marine Group’s shipyards in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin (USA). The contract signed by SENER and Fincantieri Marine Group covers installation, adjustment, training and support in the three main disciplines of the FORAN System: Hull Structure, Machinery & Outfitting, and Electrical Design. Training and post-sales support are provided to FORAN users so that they can complete the designs of their new projects in accordance with their deadlines and budgets. Three projects are currently being developed: two push/tug boats and a 185,000-barrel barge, all three of which involve the same concept of an articulated tug barge (ATB), where the pull/tug boat is connected to the stern of the barge with a mechanical system. What makes this project unique is that its classification design was performed in 3D in FORAN, and it was done remotely and collaboratively from different locations – at the shipyard and in the design office of Guarino & Cox. This company, which is a subsidiary of the Fincantieri Group, is expecting the installation of the FORAN System to be a major step forward in designing and building ships in the US.
