New range of PIASS riverboats

PIASS ship render SENER has been chosen by the Peruvian shipyard SIMA (Servicios Industriales de la Marina S.A.) and the country’s Navy for the conceptual and basic design of the new series of moving sustainable social action platforms (Plataforma Itinerante de Acción Social con Sostenibilidad, PIASS).

Under the contract, SENER will increase the capacity and operating range of the first series of vessels and resolve important technical and operational challenges, such as being able to sail in water less than 80-cm (31.5 inches) deep. The PIASS vessels will also have improved medical services and programs on board to provide services to hard-to-access populations in river basins of the Peruvian Amazon.

Construction of the first ship in this second series, named Río Yavari, with a length of 48 m (157.5 feet) and a beam of 10 m (32.8 feet), is already underway at the SIMA shipyard in Iquitos City. Commissioning is planned for the end of 2018, when the boat will commence operations on the Javari River.
